Reflective practice – why is it important?

Basically the more we hear about user centred design the more I am drawn to Donald Schon’s book – Educating the Reflective Practitioner. In the book he outlines several studies where professionals exhibit highly skilled behaviour through an iterative application of their skill. By revisiting design problems and thinking in an almost sub-conscious state they come up with solutions.

Thinking on your feet has always been a mark of a good designer, not only in designing but when communicating that design to a client or in a pitch. But the revisiting of a problem in an iterative way not only is seen in the UCD cycle but also in Agile to some extent. I have posted a review in the essay section, the summary of which can be seen on Amazon here.
