This is a great article. When hiring/evaluating Designers in the past, I often use this criteria. This is the first time I have seen the list so well articulated. Communication skills are core to any job, but Designers seem to be particularly challenged by this skill.

Completely agree! Though I think as designers – communication should be a core competence. Now you mention it, its something many designers are really bad at.

One quality that is particularly important and I do not see it in this list (unless covered in one of the ones mentioned) is communications skills (sorry, I could not keep it in one word This is one of the top ones to get buy-in from various players in a UX design project.
